Reprop® Clyster
It is a well established technique to administer an enema in order to empty and clean the bowel. Even today, nursing staff in hospitals regularly use enemas and value this method as an efficient way of emptying the bowel. The self-administration of an enema is not very common among patients. From experience we have learnt that the enema devices available on the market so far are not particularly suitable for self-administration. Practomed GmbH has developed a novel device – the Reprop® Clyster.
Reprop® Clyster consists of an elastic, easy-to-handle 750 ml bottle with an air release valve, a check valve and a rectal tube. Using manual pressure, the fluid is pumped into the rectum. Thanks to a check valve, a reflux of fecal particles from the bowel into the bottle is impossible.
Features and advantages of Reprop® Clyster:
- Easy, fast and efficient use – ideal for self-application
- Fast and targeted effect
- Uses pure tap water
- Innovative valve gear: Allows for easy pumping and prevents the return of contaminated irrigation fluid
- Light-weight, manageable device – also suitable for travel
- Successfully tested

Indications:
For fast evacuation of the rectum in cases of constipation, for stimulation of bowel activity in cases of intestinal hypomotility, for control evacuation of the bowels in cases of fecal incontinence. In naturopathy: for bowel cleansing, e.g. when fasting
Further special indication (for health care professionals):
For fast evacuation of the rectum preoperatively, prior to rectosigmoidoscopy, prior to pelvic examinations, for controlled evacuation in cases of colostomy.
Optional use (without rectal tube) for anal cleaning:
For thorough cleaning of the anal region after bowel motion: In cases of toilet paper intolerance, anal eczema, anal fissures, painful hemorrhoids, after surgical interventions in the anal region.
Instructions for use
Preparation: Fill bottle with clean water of body temperature, screw on lid, join check valve and rectal tube, as well as extension tube and bottle. Keep gloves, lubricant, water-resistant protective sheet and waste container at hand.
For patient (self-use): Sit down comfortably on the toilet seat or lie down relaxed on your back and gently introduced the rectal tube for a few inches. Turn the bottle upside down and pump the water into the rectum by manually compressing the bottle. Then remove the rectal tube and evacuate your bowels. Repeat process, if required.
For nursing care provider (administration in patients): Preferably, place the patient on his/her left side with the knees flexed. Gently insert the rectal tube. Turn the bottle upside down and allow the water to flow into the rectum. Fluid administration can be easily stopped by simply turning the bottle back into an upright position. Remove rectal tube. Support patient's evacuation of the bowel, if necessary.
Recommendations for cleaning and reuse:
For hygienic reasons we recommend the exclusive personal (patient-specific) use, i.e. reuse only by the same person (e.g. for patients at home, in retirement homes or nursing homes). Rectal tube for single use only. Reuse of the other components of the device after cleaning: Manually with soapy water, subsequently dry well. Replace extension tube (incl. check valve) after 10 applications.
